Lambda Sigma Beta
Professional Fraternity
So ya wanna be a Lambda . . .

Lambda Sigma Beta welcomes enthusiastic young men looking to achieve all they can from their college years. Joining a fraternity is not as difficult as it may seem. The brothers of Lambda Sigma Beta are very forward about meeting people and informing them of the benefits of Greek Life. Lambda Sigma Beta believes that all prospective members should visit all LSSU fraternities, so that they may get the opportunity to find out which fraternity would be best for him.

Benefits

The benefits of being a member of Lambda Sigma Beta can be broken down into the following categories: Academics, Leadership, Brotherhood, Service, and Social Life.

  • Academics: U. S. Department of Education statistics show that members of greek letter organizations regularly outperform their peers in many academic fields. Lambda Sigma Beta is no exception. Many of our members earn high scholastic marks. Lambda Sigma Beta has a minimum g.p.a. requirement of 2.0 for all active members and pledges, and we offer tutoring and mentoring services for members (and non-members) in need of help.
  • Leadership: Lambda Sigma Beta offers opportunities for our members to hold office within our fraternity, as well as opening doors for leadership positions in other organizations. Presently, members of Lambda Sigma Beta hold key positions in Student Government, the Inter-Greek Council, the Activities Board, and in many clubs and organizations. The experience gained from holding office is invaluable, and will serve the student throughout his college years and beyond.
  • Brotherhood: The brothers of Lambda Sigma Beta are a close-knit group, or, a "family away from home". Our brothers do their best to help each other out, in classes and in life's little difficulties, no matter how big or how small.
  • Service: Being a member of Lambda Sigma Beta means serving our fellow students at LSSU and the community of Sault Ste. Marie. We help out as much as we can on and off campus. Lambda Sigma Beta hosts a Hallow e'en Party for the mentally-challenged youth of Soo Township Elementary School. Our brothers also participate in the annual Madrigal Dinner, a local fund raiser sponsored by Kewadin Casinos for the area Hospice Program. Our most noted event is our annual Bed Push for the Sault Ste. Marie Fireworks Fund. This has been an annual event since 1970, and in the last five years, we have raised over $10,000 for the fund.
  • Social Life: Lambda Sigma Beta is known for hosting some of the finest social activities at LSSU. Whether it be our annual Beach Party, once picked as one of the Top 25 College Parties in the U.S., or our Tin Foil parties, a new but popular addition to our repertoire, Lambda Sigma Beta does it's best to show everyone a good time.

    Rush

Rush is the time of the year when the fraternities and sororities give interested students the chance to find out more about Greek Life and their organizations. Rush usually consists of an Open House and various Rush events. Although Rushing kicks off the first day of school, it officially begins around mid-September. Lambda Sigma Beta is an active participant in Inter-Greek Council Rush events, and we also abide by IGC standards for Rush. Once we have met all interested students and given them the chance to get to know what we are about, our Rush Chairman distributes invitations to students to pledge our fraternity.

    Pledging

Our Pledge Period is eight weeks long, beginning in mid-October and lasting until early-December. Pledging involves learning the history and traditions of Lambda Sigma Beta and getting to know all of our brothers. Pledges also complete various projects aimed at benefitting the whole fraternity. Our Pledge Period is meant to be challenging. We strive to teach our new members the values of teamwork, time-management, self-discipline, and integrity. However, it is not so challenging that nobody can make it through. With hard work and determination, any capable young man can finish with honors.

    Dues

Our dues are moderately priced at $50 dollars per semester. These funds are used to fund our various activities and upkeep. Additional expenses, for items such as jackets, hats, and other apparel, are handled on a member-by-member basis.
